Dior Cruise 2022 Collection Review
Maria Grazia Chiuri has made it her mission to provide escapism through her collections and shows and this is theme did not go amiss in this Dior Cruise Collection. The collection was held at the Panathenaic Stadium, which is an ancient sports stadium in Athens. We are being transported into Ancient Greece, Athens for the Cruise 2022 collection. The city was named after the goddess of War and Wisdom - Athena and this collection encapsulate the ancient beauty that the culture of Ancient Greece holds, till this day.
The collection was inspired by the 1951 Dior collection that was photographed by the Parthenon (see picture below). We saw a combination of newfound, modern age spirit but with a strong anchor of historical romanticism. The models were dressed in dresses of goddesses and athletic boots, we saw tunics and togas all making them look like empowered, goddesses.

A collection that celebrates the eternal beauty of Greece...
There were elements inspired from the iconic Ancient Greek Vases that were splashed onto, bomber jackets, anoraks with vivid Grecian blue. These colours are all reminders that evoked the magic of the interplay between modern sportswear looks and Ancient Greece. The brighter blues and the Cupidon prints which represent Eros, the Greek god of love all was refreshing to the eye. But overall the predominant shades throughout the collection were the golden sand colours which were themselves mesmerising.
The most hyped-up piece from the collection was the intro to the bowling bag. A unique and new addition to the Dior lines. It is opening up Dior to a new and different audience to someone who holds a Lady Dior. Dior has been experimenting with bag shapes since Maria Grazia Chiuri took on the house and many of those experiments have been successful.
This has been one of the most modern collections from Dior and would be very interesting to see the adoptions of these pieces in the upcoming Spring-Summer season. It was clearly visible that amidst the magic of the romantic Ancient Greek styles what Chirui was focusing on was wearability, comfort and functionality in all the pieces.
Could this idea of freedom of movement represent our new (re)found freedoms with restrictions in the world easing and everyone seeing a light at the end of the tunnel and the pandemic nearing an end?

Enchanting modern mythology combining past and present
With this collection we step into the landmarks, the tropes of Ancient Greece and the location of the show is a renowned landmark that seeps through with Greek Mythology. It can be said from the offset that Maria Grazia Chiuri made a sport themed collection, but with that being said this collection didn’t lack the elements of ultra-feminine styles. This collection is a love affair between the past and the present, does this suggest Dior’s take on a new era for them?
We saw a reapplication of some classic styles such as the Cannage Print and the iconic Dior bags. This collection highlighted Greek tropes of style, we saw gold and cream throughout but Chiuri didn’t lose track of focusing on Dior’s DNA and signature codes. What she did do is modernise these and amplify their wearability. Initially, reading on the inspiration behind this collection did you think it would be impossible for you to wear any piece, Chiuri did not disappoint and it’s hard not to picture yourself wearing these dimes!

The 2022 Dior Cruise Collection was bright and depicted performance wear with Ancient Greek styles as well as the classic Dior House DNA all seamlessly combined together in the most contemporary way. This collection did not lack being sleek nor elegant whilst also being extremely modern and functional.
